Hands holding a globe

Sustainability at Sortera

The demand for circular solutions continues to grow. We work closely with our customers to improve resource efficiency and reduce environmental impact. Through ongoing technological development, we increase the proportion of materials that can be recycled and move secondary waste streams higher up the waste hierarchy, supporting the transition to a more circular society.

Protecting shared resources requires careful and considered use from the outset of every project. This means minimising consumption, making efficient choices, and ensuring that materials remain in use for as long as possible. Our aim is to keep materials in circulation by returning them to the value chain in a responsible and sustainable way.

Sortera Group also works to extend the lifespan of infrastructure, both underground and within buildings and industrial facilities. This includes cleaning and maintaining pipe systems, silos and boilers using a range of high-pressure, flushing and suction services.

At global, regional and local levels, climate targets and circularity strategies are being set. At Sortera, we actively support this direction and work to contribute to meaningful progress.

Our contribution to a smaller footprint

The construction sector accounts for a significant share of Europe’s energy use, waste generation and greenhouse gas emissions. By improving material efficiency, these impacts can be significantly reduced, helping to conserve energy and natural resources.

At Sortera, we support our customers in increasing recycling rates and meeting strict environmental requirements. Through compliant and responsible waste management, we help deliver more sustainable solutions across the construction sector.

Continuous development at all levels

We support our customers throughout the value chain. This includes providing advice and training to promote sustainable waste management practices and careful sorting, which improves material recovery and recycling outcomes.

After processing waste at our own facilities, we ensure that materials are transferred to operators with the appropriate permits for further treatment, such as metal recycling. By continuously improving our processes, we work to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill and support long-term, sustainable waste management.

Working with materials we already have

We place strong emphasis on making effective use of the resources already in circulation. We also work to identify the most appropriate use for different waste streams. This may involve storing clean materials prior to reuse or managing more complex waste so it can be repurposed.

A cleaner environment for future generations

Creating a clean environment requires both effective waste management and remediation. Sortera Group develops solutions to remediate soil and water, including work in PFAS-contaminated areas where preventive measures alone are not sufficient.

Our sustainability work is based on close collaboration with our customers and is focused on supporting each step towards a more sustainable and circular future.

Environmental responsibility, social responsibility and good corporate governance form the foundation of our sustainability work at Sortera. Read more about our Double Materiality Assessment, which identifies the material topics most relevant to our business and stakeholders.
