Sortera Group’s Climate Targets Validated by Science Based Targets initiative

Sortera has climate targets approved by SBTi

We have taken an important step in our sustainability work. Sortera’s short- and long-term science-based climate targets have now been approved by SBTi. In addition, the SBTi has verified Sortera’s net-zero science-based target by 2045.

This means that our targets are science-based and in line with the Paris Agreement’s ambition to limit global warming to 1.5°C.

Why is this important?

For us, climate action and circularity are two sides of the same coin. We work to reduce our climate impact while creating solutions that enable smarter resource use. The SBTi validation gives us clear guidance on how to achieve our targets and contribute a to more sustainable development.

Our targets in brief:

  • Reduce absolute direct emissions (Scope 1 and 2) by 42% by 2030 compared to 2022.
  • Reduce absolute emissions in the value chain (Scope 3) by 25% by 2030 compared to 2022.
  • By 2045, reduce our total absolute emissions (Scope 1,2 and 3) by 90% and achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain.

How will we get there

We have developed a climate transition plan that highlights the areas where we can make the greatest difference. This includes:

  • Electrifying our vehicle fleet and increasing the use of fossil-free fuels.
  • More reuse and recycling to enable more circular material flows.
  • Working closely with our customers and suppliers to reduce emissions throughout the value chain.

“Having our climate targets validated by SBTi confirms that our targets are scientifically based and that we are taking responsibility. It also gives us clear guidance to reduce emissions and contribute to a more sustainable development within the industry.” says Lovisa Curman, Head of Sustainability at Sortera.

We will prioritise direct emissions reductions, and the remaining emissions will be neutralised to fulfil our net-zero commitment. Achieving our climate targets requires collaboration, both internally and externally, and we look forward to continuing to develop solutions together with our partners and customers.
