Double materiality analysis
We take responsibility for our impact
Environmental, social and governance topics (ESG) are central to how we operate at Sortera. Our double materiality assessment considers both our impact on people and the environment, and the sustainability-related factors that may affect our business.
This assessment helps us identify the material topics where Sortera has the greatest impact and responsibility.
Sortera’s climate and environment impacts
The “E” in ESG stands for Environment. Our operations have both positive and negative environmental impacts, and we work actively to manage these responsibly. Circular economy principles, sustainable construction and the prevention of pollution are integral to our work.
Climate change
We contribute to climate mitigation by enabling material recycling and recovery. Our ambition is to recycle as much waste as possible and continuously improve how materials are managed higher up the waste hierarchy.
Transport is an important part of our climate impact. Through careful route planning, eco-driving training, and the use of fossil-free fuels and electrification where possible, we work to reduce our direct emissions.
Pollution
Not all waste can be recycled or prevented. Where this is the case, we ensure it is managed safely and responsibly. We have expertise in handling hazardous waste and asbestos, helping to reduce harmful substances and support a cleaner environment. In Sweden, this also includes specialist services for the remediation of contaminated land and water.
Biodiversity and ecosystems
Through responsible waste management and water treatment, we support natural resource cycles. Our environmental permits place strict requirements on our facilities, and we work continuously to modernise operations and meet increasingly high environmental standards to protect nature.
Circular economy
Promoting the circular economy is a cornerstone of our strategy, particularly within the construction and industrial sector. We work to increase recycling rates and maintain critical infrastructure to extend its lifespan.
Social responsibility at Sortera
The “S” in ESG covers social responsibility, including human rights and working conditions. Our materiality assessment identifies our own workforce, workers in the value chain, and customers and end users as key stakeholder groups.
Our own workforce
The health, safety and wellbeing of our employees are a priority. We work actively to provide a safe working environment, guided by a zero-accident ambition and supported by preventive measures.
Through work environment training, diversity initiatives and continuous skills development, we aim to build an inclusive and engaged workplace. We also promote work–life balance through health initiatives and activities that support wellbeing and collaboration.
Workers in the value chain
We are committed to respecting human rights and fair working conditions throughout our value chain. Our Supplier Code of Conduct is based on internationally recognised principles covering labour, environment and anti-corruption. Compliance is monitored through self-assessments and follow-up activities.
Consumers and end users
We work to ensure that customers and end users can have confidence in our services. Responsible communication and transparency are central to how we build long-term relationships based on trust.
Our ambition is to act responsibly both through our services and in how we communicate our values and commitments.
Responsible corporate governance at Sortera
The “G” in ESG refers to governance, including business ethics, transparency and accountability. We take these responsibilities seriously and work to maintain high standards across our operations.
Responsible business
Strong business ethics are fundamental to Sortera. We have zero tolerance for corruption, bribery or unethical business practices, applying to both employees and partners. We operate in markets with low corruption risk and expect our partners and suppliers to meet clear ethical and environmental requirements.
Our supply chain is monitored to ensure compliance with international conventions, local legislation and principles for responsible production, as defined in our Supplier Code of Conduct.
We work actively to ensure that our policies, processes and certifications support responsible management of environmental, quality and occupational risks. Our facilities operate under strict permit conditions.
Our management systems are certified in accordance with ISO 14001, ISO 9001 and ISO 45001, covering environmental management, quality management and occupational health and safety across our operations in Sweden.
About ESG – environmental, social and governance factors
In the past, sustainability often focused primarily on environmental and climate issues. Today, ESG provides a broader and more structured framework.
ESG brings together environmental, social and governance factors to support a holistic approach to sustainability, helping organisations identify, manage and address their responsibilities and impacts in a systematic way.
